The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) is the Chief Executive Officer, legal representative of the AU and the Commission’s Chief Accounting Officer. The Chairperson of the Commission is elected by the Assembly for a four-year term, renewable once.

Under the leadership of Ambassador Mohamed Edrees, the Permanent Observer of the African Union (AU) to the United Nations (UN), coordinates liaisons at an Ambassadorial level with other African Permanent Missions to the United Nations. It also serves as direct representation of the African Union Commission to the United Nations in New York.

The African Union at the United Nations is made up of the 54 Member States at the United Nations. The Group coordinates its efforts on various topics, ranging from health, migration, development, to issues of peace and security.

The Agenda 2063 and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are in progress as the African Union and the United Nations through the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), integrate their efforts in implementing the development frameworks at national levels.
